Turning
Turning is a metalworking process that involves removing material from a metal workpiece to create a desired shape using a lathe. This process is used to produce parts with various shapes, such as axles, pivots, shafts, screws and many other mechanical parts. Turning can be performed on a wide range of metals, including steel, aluminum, brass, bronze, and other metallic materials.
During the turning process, the piece of metal is fixed firmly on a rotating spindle inside a lathe. A cutting tool, usually made of carbide, is then moved precisely along the surface of the workpiece, removing excess material to create the desired shape. This can be done through a series of steps to achieve precise dimensions and finishes.
Turning requires some expertise and specific equipment, but it is a fundamental process in the metalworking industry and is used in a wide range of industries, including engineering, aerospace, automotive, and many others.
